It’s been my first experience of Shrove Tuesday and I have to say – I like it! We went to Nanny’s for pancakes, according to Mum Nanny makes the best pancakes however I had to test this theory for myself. Nanny felt she needed an assistant and only thought it was fair that as it was my first time, that I could be her right-hand-sausage.

Nanny showed me how to flip the pancake but it all went a bit wrong and I ended up looking like a battered sausage! Mum was not impressed with the amount of batter she had to pick out of my mop-a-top so she instructed Hattie and Harvey to ‘help themselves’ – this was a very undignified process for me.

Then it was down to the taste test. I waited with my honorary sausage dog plate (every grandchild has to have their own crockery set at their grandparents) until Nanny threw flipped a pancake at me. Mum added a little sugar and lemon for me but obviously not too much as a sausage has to watch his waistline.

Pancake verdict = VERY tasty! Paws up to the chef!

After all the plates were cleared away it was time for a little game, football with a lemon was our choice and it was just the perfect size for a small dachshund to pick up.
