When Freshpet contacted me to ask whether I would like to sample & review their food, this wasn’t a company I had heard of before so I was definitely intrigued. After looking online at their informative website & learning that they produce high quality fresh food for us pets, I was in!
A few days later a big box (big enough to fit Alan in, just to give you some perspective) arrived on my doorstep & it wasn’t long before I had rummaged through the contents.
What greeted me from inside the box was an array of goodies! A fabulous Freshpet cool bag containing a variety of their fresh dog food. This bag is perfect for the current scorching weather here in the UK when we fancy a picnic with our pals!
We also received a Freshpet frisbee, which Rodney soon laid claim to, a funky green bandana, which I think I pulled off very well and a chopping board, perfect to use when dishing out the Freshpet food for our dinner!
So a bit about Freshpet, their moto is simple & clear:
We’re changing the way we feed our pets.
We know real, fresh, and nutritious meals are better for us, and we believe the same is true for our dogs and cats. That’s why we started Freshpet — to give pets the fresh food they deserve and to improve their lives through better, healthier food.
Just like a home cooked meal made in your kitchen
Sounds like just the thing to feed your dog! All the Freshpet recipes start with fresh ingredients like chicken, turkey, fruits & vegetables.
Freshpet gently cook their recipes at a lower temperature to preserve the nutrients naturally provided by the ingredients, this results in the fruit & veggies you can actually see when you open the food (and put it in my bowl…)
There are lots of benefits to feeding your pet fresh food:
- Improved digestion
- Great for picky eaters (I’m looking at you Alan!!)
- Shinier, softer skin & coat
- Healthier weight
- Allergy relief – a good one for our Alan as he suffers from Seasonal Alopecia
- Increased energy
Freshpet do a variety of flavours, from beef & vegetables to county chicken & turkey, also including grain free & puppy food for those of you with specific needs.
There is also tender chicken & vegetables in nugget form which was very tasty! This is a good ‘on the go’ food or even best to take away for a long weekend trip.
The fresh food comes in a sausage form, very apt considering we are sausage dogs after all, and the best thing about the packaging – it gives you the feeding guidelines for your dogs weight and then has handy measurement lines so you can just cut off the amount your dog needs – foolproof!
Just look at those veggies!!!!!
I can confirm it passes my taste test and the other hounds’ noses were definitely sniffing around so I shared it with them (like the generous sausage I am) and they too agreed, very tasty! Even fussy Alan tucked in!
Freshpet comes with a clear ‘use by’ date on each sausage and keeps in the fridge for up to 7 days after opening. You can buy Freshpet from Tescos (online & in-store) and the Freshpet website has a store finder HERE so you can see if your local shop stocks their food.
Dach’s all for now – off to stock up the fridge…
