Fridays Furry Friend

It’s Friday! Woo hoo! So how was your week? Ours has been pretty quiet after a weekend full of squirrel hunting, I will get them one day!! Progress is being made on our house, the steels have gone in & Mum says its finally starting to take shape. Mum is getting fatter and at 26 weeks pregnant is still adamant she can keep up with Alan & I on walks, which is true until one of us runs off… Dachshund Hunting

This weeks Furry Friend is the lovely Molly who lives in America. Molly is a soft wirehair dachshund and has recently been diagnosed with Sudden Acquired Retinal Degeneration Syndrome (SARDS). Molly is also a dog who blogs, you can catch up with her HERE and read how she has coped with her diagnoses of SARDS.

Hello Jeffrey,
I’m Molly, an English Cream Soft Wirehair Dachshund. I’m 5 years old.   I have recently been diagnosed with SARDS ( Sudden Acquired Retinal Degeneration Syndrome).  I’ve spent my life being a fierce brave hunting pup tracking critters in my woods and fields here in my part of NC USA. (and being a little diva girl, Mom likes to make me girlie outfits  pfftt)  I’m not letting a little things like vision loss slow me down.  I’m still tracking my rabbits, mice and moles and having a blast.

Dach’s all for now – bring on the Spring sunshine this weekend!

So sorry that the lovely Molly has lost her sight. My big brother Dill was blind after his cataract removal operations went wrong but he managed really well. He knew exactly which walk he wanted to go on every day and he could find his way around the house with a little help. Mum found some little scented stick on pads (for blind dogs) on the internet that she stuck everywhere (at his nose level) so he could sniff his way around the house and get to his water etc. She also put some baby sharp corner guards on the corners of furniture he might bump into. He managed really well as I’m sure Molly will. I also wore a cat bell so he could hear me approaching. I still wear it but now it so that Mum knows where I am and what I’m up to!!!
    Have a good week.
